How to Fix DNS Leak on Windows

Windows may use local DNS settings, smart multi-homed DNS, or browser-level overrides that bypass your VPN DNS path.

1. Enable your VPN's DNS leak protection option in the VPN client settings.
2. Disable 'Smart Multi-Homed Name Resolution' via Local Group Policy if available.
3. Set your active network adapter DNS to automatic so VPN adapters can override it.
4. Disable DNS-over-HTTPS in browsers temporarily and retest to isolate application-level leakage.
5. Reboot networking or restart VPN service, then rerun the DNS leak test in deep mode.
